How to add products in Woocommerce

Very good, this time we are going to learn how to add products in Woocommerce, in case you have or if you want to create a web page for your business and be able to manage your products easily. First of all, you have to have the «WooComerce» plugin, which will be the one we will use in this blog, besides being the best known and most efficient there is; learning to use it is really simple, you only need a little knowledge in SEO positioning (or if you don’t know, no problem).

But before learning to add products we need to add the categories

Adding product categories with WooCommerce

Something you have to know is that the categories depend on your store, if your store is small and specific it is not necessary to create subcategories to classify your products, on the other hand, if your store is larger and more general you will require subcategories within more general categories When ordering your products, to simplify this analogy we have an example:

a. Online store of a cake-only business: It would have categories such as birthday cakes, wedding cakes, classic cakes, etc.

b. Online store of a Bakery: In this case, a category could be «cakes» and the subcategories would be the categories I mentioned earlier, you can also have more categories such as cupcakes, snacks, cookies, etc.

To add the categories go to this section in the left panel.

Adding a category:

Name: In this section, you put the name of the category you want to create, a name that briefly explains the category.

Slug: This option is more for people who know about SEO, if you leave it blank it will be done automatically, for example, if the name is «Common cakes» it will automatically appear as «common cakes», you can customize it anyway, if you have one category that says «Cakes for children» you could change the slug to «cakes-children».

Parent Category: If you want to create a subcategory instead of a category, you have to put the category (previously created) where you want it to be.

Description: Here, as the name says, you put a description about the category you are going to create, this is optional since it is not necessary to put it.

Type of display: We recommend not touching this field, on the other hand, if instead of showing products you want to show the subcategories you select the option «Subcategories», the option «Products» is by default, you can also show both, but we also recommend not touching this option unless you are sure what to do.

Thumbnail: Here you can display the image you want to see on your page about the category, for example:

This is how it looks when you are editing it, as you will see it has a thumbnail related to the name, although it is optional to put the thumbnail is recommended, since WordPress uses those images automatically to list or display those categories in widgets or sliders (we recommend using an equal size or more to 500 pixels for the image).

There are also extra options that are used for the page where these categories appear.

We recommend putting the same thumbnail image in the last two options, the first is like the Facebook cover, it appears above the pages where the categories are. For example:

Since we know all about the categories it is time to move on to the main topic.

Adding Products with WooCommerce

For this we return to the option «Products» and select «Add new».

Here you will see another page totally different from «Categories», but do not worry, it is nothing to write home about.

Adding a product

Product name: Here you put the name of the product.

Long description: Description that explains in detail what you offer.

Publish product: With this option you will be able to publish the product, do not publish it unless you are sure that everything is correct.

Product data: Here you can put if the product is only virtual or if you want a file to be downloaded after purchasing the product.

Product Categories: Classify your product with one or more categories.

Product price: In this option, put the real price of the product.

Reduced price: Use this option to give a «sale» feel to the product. There is also a time option where you can put a date to the offer.

Product labels: This option is like social networks, only it is not very necessary (depending on the configuration of the page), for example, you can label a «sweet» gingerbread.

Product Image: Here you attach the main image of the product.

Product Gallery: This is optional but you can add more images of the same product.

Short description: Short description of your product.

Although it is not necessary to fill in everything, it would be the best, so you have a product that is complete and is attractive to the public.
